"used to + V1", geçmişte yapılan ama artık yapılmayan ya da çok ender yapılan alışkanlıkları ve geçmişte olan ama artık olmayan ya da çok ender olan durumları ifade etmek için kullanılır.

• I used to cry a lot when I was a child, but now I don't.
• I used to watch cartoons very often when I was child, but now I don't.
• My father used to drive to work, but now he takes the bus.
• My daughter used to be overweight when she was a child, but now she is thin.

"didn't used to + V1", "used to" yapısının olumsuz halidir.

• I didn't used to like tennis, but now I am interested in it.
• My sister didn't used to be a vegetarian, but now she is.

"Did (subject) used to + V1 ?" kalıbını, geçmiş alışkanlıklarımızı sorarken kullanırız. Kısacası "used to" kalıbının soru şeklidir.
