COMPARATIVE FORMS OF ADJECTIVES

"Comparatives (sıfatların üstünlük halleri)", iki kişi ya da nesneyi karşılaştırırken kullanılır ve bir şeyin diğerine göre daha fazla / az olduğunu belirtmeye yarar.

• Erzincan is colder than Elazığ.
• Your car is faster than mine.
• The Sun is brighter than the Moon.

Tek heceli sıfatların sonlarına "-er" eklenerek üstünlük halleri elde edilir.

• Elizabeth is taller than her father.
• A litre of milk is cheaper than a litre of fruit juice.
• A lorry is slower than a car.

Sıfat, "sessiz + sesli + sessiz" harf ile bitiyorsa son sessiz harf tekrarlanır.

• Our garden is bigger than your garden.
• Adana is hotter than Ankara.
• My mother is fatter than my father.

"-y" ile biten iki heceli sıfatlarda "-y" düşer, "-ier" eklenir.

SUPERLATIVE FORMS OF ADJECTIVES

"Superlative forms (sıfatların en üstünlük halleri)", üç ya da daha fazla kişi ya da şeyi karşılaştırırken kullanılır. Tek heceli sıfatların başlarına "the", sonlarına "-est" eklenerek "superlative" halleri elde edilir.

• Semih is the fastest footballer in our team.
• Bill Gates is the richest man in the world.
• The Nile is the longest river in the world.
• I am the tallest player in the school basketball team.

"-y" ile biten iki heceli sıfatlarda "-y" düşer ve "-iest" eklenir.

• Mr. Brown is the funniest teacher in our school.
• Mary says she loves me. I am the happiest man in the world.
• I think that red dress is the prettiest one in the shop.

"-y" ile bitenler dışındaki uzun sıfatlar (üç ya da daha fazla heceli sıfatlar) ile "the most" kullanılır.

• Henry says this is the most interesting book in the library.
• Juliet is the most sensetive girl in our class.
